So... I've been promising a page on my website for a while now, the 'arcade page'. For a couple of reasons, that blew up in my face and I wasn't able to get it running.
It's because of that, I haven't updated this website in a while. I tend to give up too easily in regards to things like that.
It's a page I felt really passionate about but couldn't find the time to write up, and even if I could there wouldn't be much content of value because all of the research I had done left me running into dead ends.
Basically, I wanted to write up the Arcade page about a complicated experience I've had with an Arcade but I wasn't able to gather the required resources to do so accurately.
That is entirely beside the point of this page though.
...dunno actually. It just felt somehow relevant to the main idea of this page. Here's the gist:
There's so much more you can do than you think you can. And I don't just mean that in a shitty generic inspirational quote kind of way, I mean it.
Right now, go pick up a pen, get a piece of paper, and just do something. I don't care what just do something. I'm not even asking you to draw on the paper, poke a hole through the paper with the pen I don't care, that's art now.
I've made a small name for myself running a bunch of TTRPG-like things in this Discord server with rules that I make up on the spot, really. I've had people tell me that the ending to one of those TTRPG-like things was better than Deltarune and will be better than Deltarune Chapters 3 & 4 when they release the same year.
Do you know how crazy of a feeling that is? It's insanity. This is what I tried to get across to the people playing that TTRPG-like thing and what I am trying to get across to you with this page:
If there's one thing I've learned in 2024, it's that you can do a whole lot more than you think you can just by making something, and don't restrict yourself to making 'normal' things.
Don't just set out to make a book or normal art or a videogame or something, *really* go out there and do something no matter what.
Make a bunch of crossword puzzles and DM them to friends at complete random. When they think it's some kind of fucked up and weird ARG, make it into a fucked up and weird ARG! Then at the end you can award MS Paint prizes to whoever preformed the best. Then make edits of those MS Paint prizes with shitty memes on them! Anything!
I'm getting there I'm getting there... it felt relevant because that's what the mindset was behind that page. I saw something I felt like I needed to talk about, so I picked up the proverbial pen and I wrote about it.
That failed, so what did I do? Nothing. I let the website rot for... until now. I think that's a shame! So what am I doing?
I'm writing what I'm writing right now to try and express how much of a joy it is to create. Get off Twitter, turn off that Youtube video, quit Twitch, just sit down and do something.
I mean, don't burn yourself out, but don't just make videogames or art or music. Create a new medium. I mean, it's not super possible to make a new medium but see what happens when you try to anyways. Show the world what you got, okay? I mean, I've been rambling about the same exact thing into this page for a while you already get the idea, but this is something I'd really like to drill into the minds of people now.
Sorry if this comes off as really preachy or like insane rambling or like I'm just saying the same things over and over.
Well I'm not the one who's supposed to answer that, now am I smartass? But if you really want a list (which you don't need!!!!!! MAKE SOMETHING!!) here is a couple suggestions:
Haha. I'm just kidding, I know absolutely nobody actually asked that question. But yeah It's cool and unrelated to this (which is why I put it at the bottom) and I'm thinking of writing up a rulebook of some sort to upload on itch.io or something I'll post the link here if I ever do that and remember about it on this page.
